Child Residential Care Programme
ATSWA Trust plays a critical role in protecting and nurturing vulnerable children through its Residential Child Care Programme, designed to support those from disadvantaged, displaced, and high-risk backgrounds. Through safe and structured residential environments, the programme ensures access to education, shelter, nutrition, healthcare, and emotional well-being during children’s most formative years.
Beyond basic care, ATSWA adopts a holistic development approach—supporting formal schooling, supplementary education, life-skills learning, vocational exposure, and participation in sports and extracurricular activities that build confidence and social integration.
Currently, ATSWA operates two dedicated residential homes under its parent organization, Annai Theresa Social Work Association:
- ATSWA Happy Children’s Boys Home
- ATSWA Rehabilitation Centre for Children at Risk (Girls Home)
Located in Dasukuppam and Madanambedu in Sathyavedu Mandal, Tirupati District of Andhra Pradesh—bordering Tamil Nadu service regions—the homes provide end-to-end residential care for children referred from both states. At present, 147 children between the ages of 3 and 18 years are supported across the two facilities, including orphaned and semi-orphaned children, HIV-affected children, children of commercial sex workers, and those rescued from extreme poverty and crises. All homes function under the guidance of the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) and Child Protection Policy, ensuring compliance with child protection standards.
For 14 years, the residential care programme was supported by Kindernothilfe (KNH); before that, it was supported by Stitching Child Tuition – Netherlands, whose partnership played a transformative role in strengthening institutional care, access to education, and holistic development for vulnerable children. Following the conclusion of that support in 2025, ATSWA has transitioned to a diversified funding model.
Feeding India – Zomato
Recognizing that hunger is one of the biggest barriers to childhood development, Feeding India stepped in to provide dry ration kits for all children residing in both the Happy Children’s Boys and Girls Homes. Their support ensures:
- Three nutritious meals and Snacks per day for over 110 children
- Food security for children from highly vulnerable households
- A significant reduction in absenteeism, illness, and dropout rates
This regular and reliable food supply not only fuels learning but restores dignity and energy to children who once went to bed hungry.
In addition to residential services, ATSWA engages families and communities through parenting awareness, child rights education, and early childhood development initiatives—strengthening protective environments beyond institutional care.
