Health & Well-being Programme

Health & Well-being Programme

ATSWA Trust’s Health & Well-being Programme focuses on preventive healthcare, disease awareness, disability inclusion, sanitation, and adolescent health. Our interventions prioritize vulnerable women, children, adolescents, persons with disabilities, and marginalized communities across Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu.

HIV/AIDS Prevention & Community Health Access

ATSWA implemented a large-scale HIV/AIDS prevention and health intervention across 8 mandals in Chittoor District, reaching 12,389 women, men, and children through awareness campaigns, HIV testing linkages, monthly medical check-ups, and stigma reduction initiatives. This long-term programme strengthened access to treatment and preventive care for highly vulnerable communities. In addition, 1,562 women, children, and elderly persons accessed general medical services through community health camps supported by Kindernothilfe.

Adolescent Health & Anaemia Prevention

Recognizing anemia as a major health barrier among rural adolescent girls, ATSWA integrated structured screening and awareness under the Azim Premji Philanthropic Initiatives programme (2024–2026). 600 adolescent girls underwent haemoglobin screening, combined with menstrual hygiene education, nutrition counselling, and social-emotional well-being sessions. This intervention directly addresses anaemia-related school absenteeism, fatigue, and long-term health risks. To promote gender equity, 100 boys were engaged as gender allies.

WASH & School-Based Health Interventions

ATSWA’s Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) initiatives have significantly improved community health infrastructure and behaviour change outcomes. In 2024–2025, with support from Royal Enfield, the programme installed 1 community RO plant, 100 rainwater harvesting units, 40 toilets and bathrooms, and 40 solar street lights. Further strengthening sanitation access, 450 household toilets were constructed in Tiruttani, Sadayankuppam, and Burma Nagar with support from Habitat for Humanity.

Vision & Disability Health Inclusion

Through partnerships with Sankara Nethralaya Eye Hospital, 18,452 individuals received eye screening and corrective surgeries. Since 2005, ATSWA has also supported 3,800 persons with disabilities across Tirupati, Chittoor, and Thiruvallur districts through medical screening, assistive devices, rehabilitation support, and referral services.

COVID-19 Emergency Health & Relief Support for Waste Pickers

During the COVID-19 pandemic, ATSWA Trust responded swiftly to protect one of the most vulnerable and invisible urban communities—waste pickers. Through targeted health awareness campaigns, the organization sensitized waste picker families on COVID-appropriate behaviour, hygiene practices, mask usage, and infection prevention measures. ATSWA provided essential dry ration kits to affected households, ensuring food security during lockdown periods.
